South Carolina Contacts

The correct contact depends on who held the person and which record is needed. South Carolina county jails, SCDC, SCDPPPS, courts, VINE, BOP, and ICE each answer a different part of a release inquiry.

This is a private reference site, not a government office. We cannot confirm custody or release, release a person, post bond, or retrieve an official record.

State Prison Release Contacts

For current SCDC public information, use the Incarcerated Inmate Search or call 1-866-727-2846. Historical departures belong in the SCDC Released Inmate Search. Questions about sentence and release records may be directed to Inmate Records at 803-896-8531.

SCDC requires a written description plus the requester's name, address, and phone. Published research did not establish public walk-in hours, so confirm the current submission method with SCDC before sending sensitive details.

Choose the Responsible Office

A local jail record remains with the county custodian, while a state-prison record remains with SCDC.

Notification and Federal Contacts

SC VINE telephone help is available at 1-866-727-2846. Formal SCDC victim registration uses the Division of Victim Services at 1-800-835-0304. A federal sentence belongs in the BOP Inmate Locator. Current immigration custody belongs in the ICE Online Detainee Locator; the ICE information line is 1-888-351-4024 on weekdays, excluding holidays, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern. Avoid sending a full birth date, identification number, or other sensitive identifier through a general website message.
